Strawberry

The strawberry plant is still there. Thought it might have died as I never have luck growing them. There were two ripe strawberries, but the birds got to them before I did. So have to put a mesh bag ( bag came with the shallots) over the almost ripe ones.

Wild About Wild Flowers

Ever since I saw wild flowers growing along the interstate in the States, I have been wild about wild flowers. Today I sow Hummingbird & Butterfly and Southern Garden wildflower seeds to this border. The honeysuckle plants will eventually grow up the lettuice.

These seeds were planted last weekend.

Collard Greens

One of my favorite vegetable is Collard Greens.  Cook them with Turkey Neck Bones, some dried red hot peppers and cook slow for a couple of hours until the leaves are soft and not mushy and eat with rice, jalapenos and cornbread.

We planted three plants and this is the second batch from those plants,  We might still get one more batch before the weather is too hot for them,

The leaves are like two feet long, its crazy.

Growing Scallions

Just decided to experiment growing scallions a few days ago. I had no idea it will work or not and my husband was very doubtful and discouraging. I proceed with my idea anyway.  I clip off the tips of the scallions (all of them still have roots) stuck them in the dirt ....... lo and behold they are growing.  They will be transplant to the vegetable garden.

The scallions were transplanted into the garden.  Ha Ha Hubby!

The scallions are doing very good.  Very soon we will be eating them.

Growing Ginger & Tumeric

My first try to grow ginger and tumeric.  This method to propagate the ginger and tumeric was from a blogger's website, which I am afraid I cannot remember which one. Thanks for the idea.

Baking Again

It was too cold and wet to mess in the vegetable garden because of the rain on Saturday and a few sprinkles on Sunday morning,  I decided to make a Marble Pound Cake, my favorite cake. Everytime I made this cake, I  remember the time, I have to make for my Dad.  We own a small Kopitiam managed by my dad and mom and once in awhile, we kids were help. My Dad will ask me  to make for him a Marble Pound Cake or two to sell, so we can make a few Ringgit. We have no oven then, so my Dad had to take it to our neighbour who own a bread oven to bake the cake. We sold the cake in slices. It was hard work then, as I have to beat the butter and sugar by hand with a wooden spoon and I will be bitching as I was making the cake and now I think of it, I feel it was worth it. Thanks Dad.

I learn how to bake from my Economics class in school and I still remember some of the techniques the teacher, Mrs Herbert taught us and also from watching a lot of cooking shows in the FoodNetWork channel.

Weekend of gloomy weather

The gloomy sky
This weekend, the weather has not been cooperating. It has been raining on Saturday and Sunday we had a few sprinklers, so it has not been a good day to be out in the vegetable garden.  But since we have the hoop house, I can crawl in and thin out the daikons.

Altogether, I pulled out 60 plants, they were be used in the next batch of Miracle Soup

Leaf lettuce from the garden. I will cook them with garlic and part used as a salad. It is so satisfying to eat vegetables from your own vegetable garden
